About Me.
Hello. My name is Brett Poe, and I have been playing hockey since the 1990s. I grew up in Decatur, IL, and played through DYHA (Decatur Youth Hockey Association) until my graduation in 2002. I finished as the high school team captain on a team that qualified for the state tournament. I joined the USAF after high school and played hockey for five years while stationed in Germany. When I left the military in 2010, I moved my family back to Decatur, IL, and continued my hockey life, playing in the men's league here as a goalie. I obtained my USA Hockey Goalie Bronze certification in 2022. I finished my six-month-long USA Hockey Goalie Silver certification under Steve Thompson and the USA Hockey Goalie certification coaches in 2024 in Columbus, OH.

I achieved my Master of Business and Analytics with a 4.0 GPA, was elected as a member of Phi Kappa Phi Carbondale chapter for academic excellence, and graduated with honors.
USA Hockey Goalie Silver certification consists of six months of homework, with three-hour classes each month. Coaches are critiqued on development plans, drill design, and evaluations. To graduate, coaches must complete an in-person three-day symposium.
USA Hockey Bronze certification is a more advanced version of online coaching clinics that all USA Hockey coaches must complete. This consists of two specific goalie classes teaching the basics of goalie coaching.
